Description: Our multi-level home is a light-filled open-plan mid-century modern. Very comfortable, both tree-filled and expansive views, with decks front and rear off the living room. Propane BBQ in front, and serene breakfast table with great views in back. There is an upper back deck with a nice outdoor couch to relax and enjoy the greenscape, Bay views and hummingbirds, lower level deck surrounded by our organic garden. There is a chicken coop on the side of the house, Our neighbors will occasionally take care of the chickens. The kitchen is modest but open to the living area and has everything you need. We are environmentally mindful. All of our linens and the King and twin bed mattresses are organic. We use eco-sensitive cleaning products. We have cans to recycle and compost almost everything.
Up a half-flight of stairs are two bedrooms, which each sleep two comfortably, and a bathroom with shower/tub. Our home is suitable for 4 adults and 1 child or a family of 5 or less. Sorry, we can not accommodate 5 adults. Modest entertainment system and fast wifi.
One of the best features of the house is easy access to fantastic trails in Tilden Park and Strawberry Canyon. Literally 100 yards away are great hiking, running and mountain bike trails. We take our dog on long off-leash walks on them every day and she loves it!
We are also very close to awesome kids attractions like the Lawrence Hall of Science (kids science museum - 5 minute walk), and the Steam Trains narrow-gauge railroad, Tilden Carousel, and Little Farm petting zoo (5-10 minute drives). Beautiful Tilden Park Golf Course, with it's Grizzly Bar and Grill, is a two-minute drive. Public transit goes right by the house for car-free access down the hill to Berkeley.
Our garden is our oasis. Young fruit trees, berry bushes, vegetable beds and friendly chickens. We hope that you enjoy the serenity and appreciate the location to many outdoor activities.
This is our primary home so while we will make some limited space available in dressers and closets, be aware that our belongings will be in the house. Please enjoy our house and respect our belongings.
We are potentially accommodating to well behaved dogs over 2yrs old, but will charge $30 per night extra for each dog you want to bring. There is 1 large dog bed available. We have a dog ( no cats, we’re allergic ) contract to cover any additional damage that could occur as well as pet rules: no dogs on furniture or in bedrooms. We have a fenced in yard with a side gate. Your dog will have access to the front yard only since we have a garden and chickens in the backyard.
Most of the neighbors have lived here for decades, and they are very quiet and helpful.
Guest access
The upstairs bedrooms and full bathroom. The downstairs living room, bar area, dining room, kitchen, 1/2 bath with laundry, front and back porches, lower deck. The lower deck is potentially shared if someone ( or us ) is in the lower studio rental.
Other things to note
Please DO NOT USE perfume, cologne and scented products in our house. Sorry, we can Not host people who smoke or vape due to a smoke allergy. Please do not move any furniture or art work around. If someone is staying in the lower studio then the lower back deck is potentially shared, or likely not due to COVID concerns, depends on the comfort level of the studio tenant. We ask the guests upstairs, specifically in the living room, to keep noise to a minimum after 9:30pm if there is a guest in the studio below. We will not be able to host other visitors/guests outside of your reservation for personal safety and insurance reasons. To emphasize our concerns, you will owe a $1,000 charge per person if you choose to break this policy. Thank you for respecting our primary home. We wish you an awesome stay and truly hope that you have a relaxing vacation. If you have an EV you will need to recharge at one of the many charging stations nearby; not at our home.
