Big Bear Hostel is your home away from home in the mountains!
We are a small family friendly home-style hostel and not a party hostel.
We have budget and deluxe private bedrooms, and female and mixed shared bunk rooms.
Amazing Big Bear Village location across the street from the lake. 1 mile to ski resorts. (Free local shuttle).
Meet Californians and travelers from all over the world coming to enjoy the mountains.
YOU MUST CONFIRM YOUR BOOKING AFTER PAYING A DEPOSIT ON HOSTELWORLD!
You must include your phone number when you check out on HostelWorld or your booking may be canceled.
You must check your email (maybe spam) after booking for a link to pay the balance of your reservation or your booking may be canceled.
For same day reservations, you must do the above immediately, otherwise pay within 24 hours.
Failure to confirm & pay for your reservation in full may result in cancelation and loss of any deposit paid.
THINGS TO KNOW
- Check in from 16:00 to 22:00 (no dorm check-in allowed after 21:30)
- Check out by 10:00 or you will be charged a $25 late checkout fee per person.
- Bedding and towel are provided. Beds are made with sheets, pillowcases, and folded blankets.
- Please bring your bathroom items.
- Pets are not allowed.
- 15-day maximum stay per month.
- Central heating set at 68-70.
- No cooling. Big Bear has cool mountain air 99% of the year. Fans are available in the room.
- We enforce quiet hours from 10 PM - 7 AM
- Reservations required - No walk-up customers allowed.

A female only shared bunk room sometimes available in our adjacent building.
All rooms have free Wi-Fi
We only have shared/locking residential style full bathrooms off the main hallway.
Some larger private rooms feature smart TVs, minifridges, table and chairs, and sofas.

Walk to pizza, burgers, Thai, crepes, Poki bowl, Himalayan, fast food, sandwich shop, steak house, Mexican, barbecue, Chinese, Indian, sushi, ice cream, candy shop, Hawaiian, tacos, pancakes, Sports Bar, brew pubs and more!
Supermarket is about a mile away. Mini Market around the corner.
Discount ski, snowboard, kayak, bike, paddleboard rentals next door.
LOCAL TAXES
Local hotel tax and Tourist Bureau fee (not included in HostelWorld price) must be paid prior to arrival. = 12%

We can always find you free parking on site or very close by.

GENERAL INFORMATION
- We have no lobby or reception, we handle all check ins by messages and in person outdoor welcome.
- Door codes provided at check in. No curfew after you have checked in.
- Reservations required - No walk-up customers allowed.
- We do not provide any meals. You can cook your meals or eat out at over 20 fantastic restaurants nearby.
- We can't guarantee you can extend your stay. Please reserve the correct number of nights ahead of time.
NOT A PARTY HOSTEL
We are a family-friendly hostel with quiet hours after 10pm. Please don't stay with us if you plan to stay out late drinking at the bar. If you disturb other guests while intoxicated you will be kicked out (evicted) with no refund. Disturbing other guests will not be tolerated. If you snore, please don't book a shared bunk room!
SAFETY & SECURITY
- The following policies help us provide a Safe and Secure environment for all guests.
- Manager is on-site, next door, or nearby 24/7.
- We have 24/7 security cameras on the outside entrances.
- Each bedroom and the main entrance have keypad code entry locks.
- ALL HOSTEL guests must provide a passport or valid state ID from outside the area, and the credit card matching the name on the reservation at check-in.
- We serve international travelers and visitors to Big Bear.
- We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.
- Courtesy to your fellow guests is required. Violations of our terms and conditions will result in eviction without a refund. You agree to be held responsible for any damages caused during your stay. You agree we can charge you for damages or excessive cleaning caused by yourself or guests at your party.
CANCELLATION POLICIES
Free cancel 14 days before arrival.
50% refund 7-14 days before arrival.
Within 7 days of arrival, there are no refunds for cancellations.
Holiday Dates are non refundable. Holiday Dates are Dec 18-January 5th. President's Day and MLK Weekends, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and any other National Holidays in the USA.
In case of a late cancellation or No Show, you will be charged the full amount of your reservation.
We take no responsibility for pricing typos which will be canceled and refunded as soon as we notice them.
- If you leave early, we cannot refund you for unused nights. Reservations canceled outside of our free cancellation period may be given, at the sole discretion of Big Bear Hostel management, a 'rain check' credit (valid for 6 months) if we can re-book for the same night(s).
In rare events, (I.e. Flooding, earthquakes, 'Acts of God, pricing errors, maintenance, or for any other reason.) your confirmed reservation may be canceled and refunded in full without recourse or recompense. Your Hostelworld booking fee (deposit) is out of our control and you must contact Hostelworld regarding refunds.
- We don't take cancellations over the phone. To cancel, please cancel via HostelWorld.com or email.
- You must receive an email confirmation from us or your cancellation is not complete!
- As a small family-run operation, we can't take the loss if you cancel at the last minute. If you have not called and canceled and received a cancellation confirmation by email, your reservation will be considered a No-Show, and be charged the full amount of your reservation and is not eligible for a rain check voucher.
CANCEL FEE
Any amounts refunded by Big Bear Hostel are subject to a 5% cancel fee to cover processing.
Any deposits paid to HostelWorld are out of our control.
WINTER WEATHER / TRAVEL ISSUES
Winter weather, road closures, or last-minute illness are not valid reasons to cancel and get a refund. Be prepared to drive in the snow, take alternate routes, or wait for roads to open if necessary.
Big Bear Hostel Policy and Conditions:
EXTRA GUESTS
Please double check that you have the correct 'Number of Guests" on your reservation. Extra guests are not free and can only be added if capacity allows. Children must be included in your guest count and are not free. Your reservation shows the number of guests allowed in your room. Base rates include a certain number of guests. Extra guests cost $25 +tax depending on room/season. If you show up with extra guests and we cannot accommodate everyone, you will not be allowed to stay and not be given a refund.
PCT HIKERS
Please message us before booking. Despite hosting thousands of hikers for 15 years, our rentals are not a good fit this year.
NO PETS ALLOWED
Big Bear has many pet-friendly lodges, please choose them when traveling with animals. We are a small family-run business with a child with allergies. Thank you for choosing other pet-friendly options.
AGE LIMITATIONS
You must be 18 years or older to make a reservation and have a valid ID and credit card at check-in matching the name on the reservation. No children under 18 allowed in dormitories.
Despite thorough cleaning and high-touch surface disinfection between guests, we cannot guarantee you will not be exposed to viruses or germs during your stay. Guests assume all responsibility for their safety and that of others in their party, and agree that use of any common areas and our facilities are at your own risk.
