Mechums Cottage is a unique and spacious (880 sq ft), light-filled, four room private cottage located on my country property 25 minutes outside of Charlottesville and 5 minutes from Crozet. The property includes the main farmhouse and Mechums Cottage with plenty of space between for privacy. It is positioned well for a holiday setting, cozy winter get-away, honeymoon cottage, wedding stay, recreational journey such as skiing/biking/hiking out from the cottage around the beautiful blue ridge mountains, golfing on award-winning nearby courses, or a quiet & cozy get-away for reading or writing. You can enjoy sipping coffee, tea or wine on the very cute front deck with adirondack chairs and flowers enjoy the privacy and serenity without being isolated from the amenities of our two towns which have been awarded as top cities to live and visit.
The cottage features concrete countertops and has a full kitchen including plates, cutlery, pots and pans. The cottage is building a collection of paintings and drawings from local artists. Information about each artist and these are purchasable items. The cottage has low tech and high tech options - board games & a sound bar and a HD 36” flatscreen (bring your hdmi accessible laptop for Hulu, Netflix, etc) for your listening pleasure and wifi for your movies, board games and cards and puzzles for hang out time with friends, a farm table for working or dining. The kitchen has room for crafting a meal, making cookies and is enjoyable for simply making making coffee. Coffee and tea are provided and Harris Teeter grocery store is two minutes down the road.
The bedroom is accessed by a full-size internal stairway. The bedroom is open from above to the living area and is light filled with full height headroom and two closets. It has a queen-size bed with a comfy new mattress and box springs and pillow top, comfy mattress pad and very nice and soft sheets, comforter and six different varieties of pillows. It is more comfortable than my own bed:)
The bathroom has a full size shower and features top shampoos, conditioners, lotion and body soap plus cute towels.
There are berries vines along the perimeter of the vegetable garden which you are welcome to enjoy. Also I can recommend down-home or high-brow dining locations in restaurants with award winning chefs. The breweries and vineyards are plentiful with wine makers from France, Italy and Spain. Wintergreen ski resort is about twenty-five minutes away. Polo on Sundays during the summer at King Family Vineyard is a favorite!
The recreation opportunities are abundant from paddling our great rivers or reservoirs, golfing 5 public golf courses, yoga at a variety of studios, hiking the Appalachian Trail, riding horses, biking or running far or short distances, skiing 30 minutes away at Wintergreen, fishing in our many lakes and streams. I can assist you suggestions for routes or lessons for anything you would like to do from cooking lessons to fly fishing lessons or horseback riding lessons.
The property is in an eclectic neighborhood in Albemarle County which as an architect I really appreciate:) and we even have an occasional train that runs through to add to the atmosphere plus Sunny and Stormy our ten year old labs that might want to say hello:)
